Creating a Queer Studies Program at Denison University, Phase III: A Queer Eye for the Liberal Arts and Sciences. Executive Summary reads: "Since Denison instituted its Queer Studies Program in 2000, course offerings were sporadic. Over the past three years faculty sought and received funds from the Provost’s Office and GLCA New Directions Initiative to reinvigorate the program. Phase I of the initiative provided support for nine faculty to attend the California Institute of Integral Studies Conference, “Expanding the Circle: Creating an Inclusive Environment in Higher Education for LGBTQ Students and Studies.” The faculty returned with a better understanding of the breath and depth of Queer Studies. Phase II brought together 20 faculty who had never been taught a Queer Studies course for a 10-week summer reading seminar. The intent of the seminar was to familiarize faculty with the materials covered in two foundational courses of the Program. The monies laid the foundation for what has become a vibrant Queer Studies Program. However, what it takes to create a program is different from what it takes to sustain a program. To sustain a program a group of faculty need to be committed to the Program. Phase III is intended to create just such a group by having them come together to share their work and compile it into the first of its kind volume - A Queer Eye for the Liberal Art and Sciences. The volume will contain participant explorations of self and other using a queer eye. The workshop will help them understand and support each other’s work within the Program and increase the likelihood of the Program’s continuance."
